    Hello everyone and ANYONE:

My father got his bmb results back from 12/27/06. He’s been on dacogen since the first week of June… six rounds. I’m confused since the doctor said the results are “the same” as the last bmb done in August… no change, and that they will just continue with the same treatment of transfusions and dacogen. Does anyone know what these results mean?
Diagnosis: Bone Marrow, posterior iliac crest, left; aspirate, clot and biopsy: – Moderately cellular bone marrow (60-70% cellularity) with changes consistent with residual acute myelogenous leukemia with multimedia dysplasia. Blasts are approximately 20% of the cellular marrow. – Lymphoid aggregates, reactive by flow cytometry. Comment: – The current bone marrow is similar to the previous bone marrow from August 2006. MICROSCOPIS DESCRIPTION: – Adequate number of marrow spicules is present. Marrow smears show an M/E ratio of 1.3. Myelopoiesis is left-shifted. Blasts are approx. 20% of the nucleated cells. Blasts are small to intermediate in size with no Auer rods. Mature granulocytic elements are readily identified. Eosinophils and eosinophilic precursors are markedly increased (17%). Megakaryocytes appear adequate in number and focally present dysplastic changes. Scattered plasma cells and lymphocytes appear mature. Erythropoiesis presents megaloblastoid changes with focal binucleated forms. Stainable iron is present in increased (3+) amount. Riged sideroblasts are seen. Marrow clot and biopsy sections show a relatively uniform overall cellularity of 60-70%. Few intermediate size reactive appearing lymphoid aggregates are present. Significant eosinophilia is present. Mature granulocytic elements, erythroid precursors and megakaryocytes are identified. BLASTS: 7.67%; PROMYELOCYTES: 12%; MYELOCYTES: 6%; METAMYELOCYTES: 2.33%; BAND: 1.67%; NEUTROPHILS: 5.33%; EOSINOPHILS: 17%; MONOCYTES: 4%; PLASMA CELLS: .67%; ERYTHROID: 27.33%; MEGAKARYOCYTE: ADEQUATE; M/E RATIO: 1.3.

So, that’s all that was on the BMB. Does anyone know what this means and how bad is it???

    Thank you.

    Janice
