    Dear Karen,
My understanding is that Exjade IS now on the market. Our doctor did an MRI on my mom’s liver to determine if she needed to start Exjade. We don’t know yet. All we know is that, so far, she has no liver damage. But our doctor can apparently get the drug to us easily now. ‘Hope this helps!

I actually got a call from the folks at Novartis yesterday. I was told that even though Exjade is not readily available they are making special arrangements where needed. I have a feritan count of 1871, down somehow from 2321, but my BMT doc wants to wait and see. Anyone interested in more info or getting on the mailing list can call 888-45-reach or go to web site http://www.toomuchiron.com

Just got a newsletter from the Aplastic Anemia Assn, says that Exjade is now available; Here’s the What it says:

Exjade®, the First Oral Iron Chelator Now Available
Currently Novartis, Inc. is distributing Exjade® (deferasirox) through a central provider using a system called EPass. To obtain Exjade®, have your doctor fill out a simple two-page form and fax it to the EPass coordinator. They will fill your prescription and send it directly to your hospital or doctor. To obtain the necessary form and fax number visit: http://www.us.exjade.com or call 888.903.7277. To learn more about Exjade® please visit our Drug Information Page at http://www.aamds.org.

    Hope that helps.

    Dennis and everyone,
Thank you for responding, you all gave great information. Although I no longer think my dad will be prescribed exjade, I certainly hope this information helps others. I hope our cancer center knows about this.
    Thanks again,
    karenk
