I posted about a month ago telling everybody that I had mds and was going to start vidaza then a bmt in the future. So far I have received one round of vidaza a monday thru friday series 5 days of shots now I am off it until Dec 12th then another round of 5 shots. My question is when should I see some results if any??? Last bone marrow biopsy showed 16% my counts are up and down I feel pretty good eating well etc…Any info would help…Scott 41 MDS

    hi scott

my dad gets 7 days of shots – usually they say that it takes about 4 cycles to see results, BUT as it is always said – EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT

    Dear Scott,
Vidaza no longer works for my mom. However, it DID work for a little while. It took her two cycles to see some improvement. She had 7 days of shots, then a break.
    Best of luck!

    Scott,

In my case, I got my first round of Vidaza on August 12, and my LAST transfusion on September 24. Counts began climbing on September 20, and finally got into the low end of normal on November 7. I had a CBC yesterday, haven’t seen the results yet, but going on how I feel, I’m not expecting any major unpleasantness. 76 days transfusion-free; I was getting 2 units every three weeks.

Having said that, remember, your mileage may vary. Everyone responds differently.

My dad showed improvement after the first round. Dad’s oncologist and the oncologist at the Mayo Clinic that we consulted with were surprised. They said that it usually takes up to four rounds to see if it is going to work. Don’t give up on it. Good luck and God bless.
