I have been to two local oncologist/hemotologists with no definitive diagnosis. One said possible MDS; the other treated with B12 unsuccessfully. Where do we go next? Thinking of Mayo Clinic in Rochester or Jacksonville, Fl. Has anyone had experience with either facility? Is there another recommendation? We live in Indiana.

Dr. Azra Raza at UMass (the University of Mass.) is probably the best. Look at the website: protocols for myelodysplastic Syndrome and it will tell you all about clinical trials, including hers. Aplastic anemia and Myelodysplastic Syndrome is another website that can help. They are doing some clinical trials in Cleveland, and there is one in FL, which you can find on the protocols for MDS I gave you. A lot of hemos/oncs know next to nothing about MDS, which is unfortunate. Good luck!

Dr Larry Cripe at the Indiana Univ Med Center, Indianapolis is experienced in treating MDS. It is a center of excellence.

There is a Center of Excellence in Indiana, as well as a Dr. of Excellence there.

The Center is: Indiana University in Indianapolis.

The Doctor: Dr. Larry Cripe

We travel from Chicago to see him and have been doing so since October, 2006.

Dr. Cripe is very good and worth seeing in our opinion.
