Lynette….Thanks for your reply! I noticed that on my lab request that my doctor filled out for my next lab work that he is requesting that all of those things you mentioned be tested. I think in my case because I am fortunate to not have an exceedingly low hemoglobin count that he does’nt want me to continue on the Procrit unless it gets onw into the low 9’s again..Lynne

Susan………I am 64 years old and was diagnosed with MDS-RARS almost 5 years ago,and I’m doing fine so far. It is such “doom and gloom” at first…all the written information is so negative…..just keep on getting all the info you can as to what type, etc., and educate yourself, and this forum is wonderful!

Neil………You are so right about the iron. As soon as my hematologist suggested abit of iron my hemoglobin started moving upwards faster. As of yesterday is is 10.7….Lynne

I have had a weird thing happen, and want to see if it is just me. I had my first procrit injection (40,000) 48 hours ago(in my left arm),and guess what hurts? The exact spot on my hip where I had my bone marrow biopsy done 4 years ago. Weird, huh? It’s aching like I had it done yesterday> Any comments?…………..Lynne

Thanks to everyone who replied to my e-mail about procrit. I’ll know tomorow whether or not I’m starting on it or not. I wish I could get over the physiological part of this. It seems that I feel that “I’m going down hill” if I have to start procrit. I need to be more appreciateive that I have that choice….Lynne

Neil……does he check my EPO level through a blood test? The last time I had it done it was “41 IU/L”…is that good or bad news? My iron “numbers” were normal a few months back, but he is having those checked again this coming week. Do you have your procrit injections in your arm? Someone else said that you should have the procrit get to room temperature before the shot so it wont hurt as much.comments?….Lynne

Are the procrit shots in the arm or stomach? For some reason Ihad always heard the stomach, but now they are saying it will be in the back of my arm..Lynne Sylvester
