My father has MDS and suffers shortness of breath. Sometimes it is so bad that he passes out or falls. Transfusions of RBC help, but he has also been diagnosed with fungal pneumonia. The combination of low blood counts and lung problems is difficult. He becomes symptomatic with hemoglobin below 9 even though he was always active and even playing tennis until a few months ago. Health care providers should be encouraged to treat based on symptoms and not simply a number.

my father starts Dacogen on Monday for first time, low platelet count and blasts in the 30s
I am wondering how they choose between Vidaza and Dacogen, but both seem to fall in the same class of drugs.
