Jimbob,
Please excuse my ignorance, but what is “an extreme leukemic event”?
SusanJMemberOh my goodness! I had no idea that Revlimid was so expensive! My dad’s doctor is going to let us know at our next appointment if he thinks Revlimid would be worth a try for my dad. But my dad is such a tightwad(HaHa) that if he has to pay over $100 for anything, he absolutely refuses to have it! I’m not sure what we will do, but I will find a way to afford it if insurance won’t pay.
SusanJMemberDennis,
My dad has complex cytogenetics as well as the 5Q also. I still am not sure what all this means, except to say I am scared to death!SusanJMemberBrenda,
Thanks for the info. I am so sorry about your dad. Did he develop all those conditions due to taking Revlimid?
SusanJMemberFran,
I will pray for you and Jim. Please keep me informed on how he does with Vidaza. My dad’s doctor has suggested Vidaza treatments. My dad is also 73 and he has a pacemaker and congestive heart failure. His last bone marrow biopsy showed 6% blasts. The Aranesp shots that he has been getting haven’t helped his blood counts at all. I am worried about how Vidaza might affect his heart. God bless!

SusanJMemberJim,
Thanks for the info. I guess it really all comes down to taking the chance, right? Nothing comes without risks. I just hate to see my dad so sick and knowing that it still might not work.
SusanJMemberThanks Sdrake,
That does help. I guess what I’m wishing for is a magical pill that he could take with no side effects! Whatever he decides to do will come with risks and side effects, so I guess I need to resign myself to this. I want hime to live at least another 20 years! Please know that I am praying for all of you!

SusanJMemberTerri,
How does Bob feel with the Vidaza treatments? Is he sick all the time or is he able to do things? I just struggle with the notion that even if we could “buy” time with the Vidaza, would it be worth it for my dad if he was sick all the time. What a choice!
SusanJMemberDennis,
I feel the same way. You seem to have a very positive attitude. Gloria, I will put you and your husband on my prayer list. God will take care of all of us.
SusanJMemberSadly Dennis, it seems that no one has experienced a “remission”. My dad just has in his mind that this is something that can be fixed if he tries hard enough. Maybe I should have that approach. What could it hurt? I have been so negative through this, maybe if I take a more positive view, we will have a miracle.
SusanJMemberThanks Dennis. A question, is it possible for this disease to go into remission, like cancer, after the treatment with these drugs? My dad is of the mindset that if he does do this, then this “problem” will go away.
SusanJMemberThanks Dennis. If you don’t mind my asking, how old are you? My dad is 73 and also has congestive heart failure. I’m not sure how these factors will go along with Vidaza treatments. We will just have to discuss it and try to do what we think is best. I just want all the information I can get before we make a decision. Thanks again.
SusanJMemberNo one else has any info or experience with Vidaza?
SusanJMemberKen,
My 73-year-old dad has RAEB with 6% blasts and the doctor suggested today that we read up on Vidaza and talk to him about it next visit. How did your wife respond & handle her first round of it? Best Wishes to you.
Susan
SusanJMemberDear Jim and Ellie,
The doctor told us after daddy’s first bone marrow biopsy that he had an abnormal chromosome that makes the disease progress to AML much faster than others might. That is why I can’t get leaukemia out of my mind. Ellie, did the doctor give Glen a prognosis? My dad has heart problems and I don’t think would be a candidate for chemo. I don’t think I can bear this. I am so afraid. God bless you for your bravery.
