    Hi,

he has large scale chromosomal damage, almost 50% are damaged. Not sure exactly which ones, but i am sure the 5q is damaged.

What other treatments can we look at?
As of now all docs I have spoken to have recommended a BMT only. We dont have a match yet. Obviously i would like to try something else before a BMT. He has been out of hospital for over 3 months and has not required a single transfussion.

Thanks for the post, my dad does not have insurance. But we can get out hands on just over $200,000. I am unsure which transplant centre to talk to though?any suggestion?

Hi, my dad is currently in India, but we are looking for treatment overseas. I am in constant touch with doctors at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in seattle. I am pretty clueless when it comes to the chromosome part of the disease. All my doctor has told me is that, had there not been any chromosome damage things would have been much easier and simpler. Currently i am also looking for an unrelated donor and also exploring my options with an umbical cord transplant.

Hi, also wanted to find out what can one do as far as the damaged chromosomes are concerned. My doctor tells me that had my fathers chromosomes not been so damaged, life would have been much easier.

Is their any medication available for correcting the damaged chromosomes?

Hi, My father was also diagnosed around the same time (late jan early feb 2008) with RAEB 2. He also has significant chromosome damage and my doctor has told me that because of the chromosome damage he will definitely progress to AML. We havent been able to find a suitable donor for the transplant. What are your plans? how old is ur husband? my father is 52 y/o. Where is he getting treated? which hospital? I read your post and the similarity b/w our cases intrigued me to leave this post. Please stay in touch and keep me posted.

Thanks Alice, I did receive your email, just was not able to reply back and thank you for your help. Currently we are just discussing where to take my dad for the transplant the options being:
    1. India itself (but this is only possible if there is a sibling match)
    2. Singapore
    3. UK
    4. US

hey …Infact my dad has had 3 BM biopsies since early feb ( i knw its hard to believe , but trust me)..not sure if it was bcoz his tests were screwed up or not…but basically today i got the confirmed results of his latest biopsy.. which shows that his blast population is in the region of 3-4 % ..the report further says that he has MDS of an unidentified form…i will show my doctor the report tomorrow. lets see what happens…..just to clarify …he is on medication…but no vidaza nothing special…just the normal stuff…small time medication.

I am not aware of extensive his chromosome damage is as of now. However he was diagnosed in Late january 2008.
Is a bone marrow transplant the only solution?
