    Dear Marla,
You are wonderful! Thank you so much for telling me about Essiac Tea. I just did something stupid: At the very INSTANT that you were writing me–I put a new topic on here! My apologies! And, many, many thanks!

    Dear DMiller and Fran,
We know what you mean about doctors not knowing much about MDS. My 88-year-old mom began with one of these. She’d be dead now if we hadn’t phoned the wonderful people at Moffitt in Tampa. We got the 800 number for MDS on this site. They suggested a “Center of Excellence” to us and our fine doctor. My mom now sees Dr. Robert Hromas at the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center here in Albuquerque. If anyone can save my mom’s life, Dr. Hromas can. My suggestion to you is that you find a “Center of Excellence” nearby and get the recommendation of a fine doctor who specializes in MDS. Best wishes to you!
    Sincerely,
    Janet

Dear Caroline, Luke & Margaret, Patti and Marla,
I hope I haven’t omitted anyone here who helped me out so much. All of you suggested things to me and my mom that you thought would help her MDS. Well, today our good doctor recommended Essiac Tea and magnesium. He said we could try the shark liver oil, and that it wouldn’t hurt us. That is exactly what we’re going to do. I just have one last question: We are not clear on the amount of Essiac Tea. Our doctor says at least 3 cups per day. Somewhere I read where one should take only 1 oz. per day. Any ideas about this? Can one overdose on Essiac Tea? This is a great Forum! I feel like I can really come to you for help! Thanks again so much.

    Dear Caroline,
P.E.I. is gorgeous, and there are so many wonderful things there in addition to Anne of Green Gables sites. Canada makes life worth fighting for. Best wishes to you, Caroline!
    Sincerely,

    Dear Helen,
I can’t answer many of your questions; but I think I can give you and your husband some good news. The FDA has now approved Exjade. This is an iron chelator like the Desferal infusions, except it’s just a pill that is dissolved in water or juice! No more infusions! Apparently it is being manufactured and distributed as I write this. My dear mom has MDS and is tx dependent. We’re hoping for the Revlimid. Her life depends on it. I hope that somehow, knowing about Exjade, cheers you both up! Good luck to you both and to everyone in our same boat!

Dear Caroline, Luke & Margaret, and Patti,
My deepest thanks to all of you for helping me out. I am fine: It’s my MOM who has MDS. Both of us are addicted to chocolate. I DO take magnesium and calcium. However, we are going to ask our doctor about putting my mom on magnesium. It is quite possible she isn’t getting enough.
My mom and I are both under a great, great deal of stress just now. In a way she handles it better than I do: I’m the one who…overeats!
My mom does eat soups, garlic, tomatoes and cabbage. So do I. Neither of us likes mung bean sprouts! My mom also eats the protein whey powder; she likes it!
My thanks to all of you for helping us. We both need a nice vacation. Our favorite vacation destination is…Canada. We adore Canada, and I dream of taking my mom up the CN Tower and having her step on the glass floor! Thank you, all of you, so much. I’ll let you know what the doc says!

    Dear Marla,
Thanks so much for all your information. We’re going to ask our good doctor about that Essiac Tea. I think you’re wise about the refined sugar; one problem is that my mom has a sweet tooth! I’m 62 and healthy, but my sweet tooth is worse than hers! Some of the things your Website suggests we have done for years. We use good oils and whole grains. I think we’ll be taking a lot of your advice, and I thank you so much for replying.
    Your friend,
Janet, aka Sugarwhale (that’s, unrefined sugar!)
