my dad’s bmt doc recommend an SSRI for his nightly fevers. she said it worked for many of her MDS patients. i guess seratonin helps the body regulate temperature. so my dad took prozac every day and he never had another one of those fevers. i believe that any of the SSRI drugs will work for this. Lexapro, Paxil, etc.
debdeb mMemberI recently lost my dad to MDS (in Oct.) My dad also died very peacefully. that’s a blessing. I’m thinking about you…
take care
debdeb mMemberchoijk,
thank you so much for your reply. yes, he was amazing!
i love that photo, too! it was taken in January after a few rounds of Dacogen before the SCT.
debdeb mMemberStacey,
yes, it’s very unreal right now. it seems there’s been a lot of sadness on this list just recently.
debdeb mMemberStacey,
i’m so sorry to hear of your MIL’s passing. i’ll be thinking of you and your family.
debdeb mMemberthank you so much, Jack. i was so sorry to hear about your wife, also. it was such a tough fight. at least they are now at peace.
debdeb mMemberMary and Jo,
yes, he was quite the guy! i can hardly believe he is gone. i miss him terribly already. the support of this list has been great, even though i have mostly just read posts and not posted a lot myself.
debdeb mMemberyes, that must be it.
thank you so much for your prayers.
debdeb mMemberthank you so much. i think this thing has finally gotten the best of him. his body is really going down hill. the good thing is that mentally, spiritually and emotionally he is doing very very well.
debdeb mMembermy dad has taught geography for years. but he is officially on a leave of absence as of yesterday. he is just too weak to teach. the doc says he may not have much time left at all the way he is going. weeks. so he is putting his affairs in order and saying goodbye, etc.
debdeb mMembermy dad is also a middle school teacher! he is teaching part time this year as he doesn’t have the strength to teach the whole day. the kids have been fantastic! they really love him. my dad was so relieved to have the 3rd round postponed. i don’t blame him. it has really hit him hard.
my dad’s appetite has been really low with the vidaza. he says everything tastes bad.
debdeb mMembermy dad’s third round of Vidaza has now been postponed to see if he can get some strength back. he is just so exhausted!
debdeb mMemberhow many rounds of Vidaza have you had? my dad has had two rounds. the first one did not exhaust him. the second made him so exhausted he stayed in bed all weekend and takes a very long nap every day now. he was scheduled to begin round 3 but they are delaying it until he gets some strength back.
debdeb mMemberthanks, Eve. i will get my dad to try the ensure with ice cream. that’s a good idea.
we are definitely careful about infections.
Julie, please let me know how your husband does on vidaza. i hope he continues to do well with it.
debdeb mMemberthey just gave that to my dad! i had forgotten about that as he has not started taking it (or maybe took some today). any other advice with regard to vidaza? i see that your dad took it for quite a while.
thanks, Eve!
