Many prayers, Loretta.
RussMemberLoreta, My prayers go out for you and the other forum members who are fighting this terrible disease. My dx was about the same time as yours and the Vidaza seemed to work for awhile – about a yr. (Then BM blasts went up from 10 to 18%) Am now on Dacogen – just finished round 4 and will have a BMB next month. When I started round 4 my peripheral blood showed 40% blasts –
don’t know the significance of that since they had neen comming down to 4% from 31%. Will ask my Hemo next Monday – am hoping maybe the high peripheral blasts may be due to the BM pushing them out. Best wishes on finding a donor – my age (79) precludes any SCT. Praise God, I know my eternal life is secure through Jesus Christ.RussMemberMy experience is like Carl’s. I reach the nadir on my counts 2 weeks after starting Dacogen and then the get back up in 3-4 weeks after starting. Best of luck for your Dad and his treatment.

RussMemberAll the posts were interesting: Believe it or not my hair got wavy after being on Vidaza.
Regarding the constipation problem, mine was from the Vidaza itself. Have the same problem with Dacogen. Don’t think it was the anti-nausea
medicine the it continues about 2 weeks after I stop taking it.RussMemberI just finished my 3rd round (Dacogen) but it is too early to tell anything definitive. Blasts in my peripheral blood seem to be coming down but doc wants me to do 2 more rounds then another BMB. My BMB in August showed 18% blasts. I have had 2 PRBC txs since I started Dacogen in August.
I seem to hit a low point on WBCs and PLTs 2 weeks after I start each round then they build up from there.RussMemberBoth Vidaza and Dacogen cause severe constipation for me that lasts for a week to 10 days after treatment. I use a routine of about 3 extra glasses of water per day, a couple of Fibercon or Metamucil tablets, and 1-2 stool softener tablets as long as the hard stools continue.
RussMemberHang in there guys, let’s keep each other posted on the results. Best wishes
RussMemberChuck, Vidaza seemd to fail for me after about
8 months. I seemed to be doing fair until I went off of it for a couple of months while I visited UMASS. Dr. Raza recommended I go back on it but after 3 rnds I had a BMB where my blasts were up from 9 to 18%. She then suggested
Dacogen which I’m on now but have not had another BMB since.RussMemberCarl, How are you doing with the Dacogen?

RussMemberDear Vicky,
May God bless and sustain you and most of all heal your son. I pray not only for healing but that he will regain his full facilities.RussMemberFran, Jim’s numbers sound pretty good to me.
Hope he can keep them up. God Bless!RussMemberKristy, Times like these words are just not adequate. Your Mom had a tough fight but can now be at peace – no more needles, visits to ER and doctors. May the GOD in heaven who loves us all give you and the family much comfort and solace.
RussMemberMy 2 cents: Without getting into whether or
not embryonic stem cell research is right or wrong, the federal gov’t is not outlawing the research. I understand they are only saying let us not use taxpayers money to support something that many taxpayers oppose. If only those who wanted embryonic stem cell research had to pay for it, so be it. -
