    Alice,

She hasn’t been updating her page anyway. She is a really busy 21 year old. Just last week, the doctor said she is in remission! She can go back to college in the Fall. Her counts are looking really good and she is having only a small amount of GVHD. Her attitude has been amazing throughout the whole ordeal. Life is getting back to normal for her.

    Thanks for asking!

I have been on Coumadin since 1990. I have never had any side effects. I get my counts checked monthly. The only side effect I am aware of would be bleeding.

Just a quick update. Ashley is doing well. Her white count started showing yesterday. It was .14 and today .18 so the docs are pleased. She is working out like crazy there. Eating well. The only thing she is not liking so far is the food and she is losing her hair. Overall she is doing great!

I’m here. She gets admitted on Friday. The transplant will take place on 3/14. She has an unrelated donor with a 10/10 match. I’m a little tense these days but we’ll all get through it.

She is getting anxious as it gets closer but wants to get it rolling.

It happens all the time. Especially the ones that say to pass to all your friends. I use snopes a lot to find out if they are real or not.

I am an internet junkie so forgive me. I looked these claims up on http://www.snopes.com and found that they have investigated this to be false. You can read the details here:

Today’s visit to roswell brought good news. Here is Ashley’s text message to me:

“My donor is giving blood samples! They told me that they have never seen a donor move so fast! This is soo great…”

As you can see, her spirits are high and things are going swiftly.

Thanks for all the support and prayers!

OK, I have to throw a bit of humor in here.

Ashley’s 21st birthday was Tuesday. Finally legal to drink. She got permission from the doc to have one drink. Well, as any 21 year old would do on their birthday, she went out and got hammered. She got home at 3AM. The next morning on her way to Roswell, she got sick 2x and another 3x at the appointment. They checked her counts and for the first time, she didn’t need platelets. Now we are thinking of alchohol therapy. lol

I know it could have been disasterous if she had bleed while being sick or something, but what is she supposed to do ? She has been in bed for what seems like forever with no energy and is facing something no one should have to go through especially at her age.

She vows to never drink again…..

Anyway, we are awaiting scheduling for the transplant. It is probably about 4 weeks away.

Ashley is at Roswell now. Her younger sister is not a match. They do however have 3 young girls tested recently. They are all a 10 out of 10 match according to my father in law who is there. They have to be tracked down and checked a little further to pick the best one. It will take another 4 – 6 weeks. But at least it looks good at this point.

Ashley is getting red blood and platelet transfusions today as her counts tanked…….
