Barb and Lynette,
You have no idea what your advice and prayers mean to me. I can’t put it into words. I had tears in my eyes when I read your posts. I will keep you posted.
Thanks,
KatiekatiebearMemberJack,
Thank you for your prayers. My dad’s heart test went well today, so he is able to get the second round of chemo. He is being admitted to Sloan early tomorrow morning. When I visit on Saturday, I’m going to get the exact combination of drugs. I know he said it’s stronger.
Thanks again,
KatiekatiebearMemberLynette,
Thanks very much for your response. I talked to my dad a little while ago, and his counts are even worse. He is going into Sloan tomorrow for a test on his heart, and if that checks out okay, then they will admit him on Wednesday for another round of induction. It makes me feel better that other people have gone through this and made it. Hopefully this second round will do the trick, and he can go onto the sct.
Thanks again,
katiekatiebearMemberMy dad is 66 years old. He came through the initial chemo pretty well. He had a bout with chicken pox, and an infection in one toe. He only ran a fever one day. I don’t know what regimen they used. I know they used two drugs, and this time he told me it will be even stronger. He doesn’t get a whole lot of information for me to work with, nor does he ask too many questions. He did say that at this point this is his only option. He is very weak and tired also. He has to get a test on his heart to make sure that the first round of induction didn’t damage his heart muscle. I will try to get more info on the regimen. I’m glad to see your wife is down to 5% blasts. I hope she’s able to get the SCT.
Thanks,
KatiekatiebearMemberJan,
My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. I’m sorry for your loss.

katiebearMemberJan,
My dad turned to AML also. He is being admitted to Sloan today to start induction chemo in hopes of getting him into remission for a SCT. My aunt is a match for him which is good. He has 50% blasts in his blood. We are very scared. From what he says his doctor is confident that she can get him into remission. I am praying that happens. You and your mom are in my prayers.

katiebearMemberHi Jim,
I don’t have MDS, my dad does. I have suffered from Meniere’s Disease for the last thirteen years though. I know I don’t have an iron problem. They really have no idea what caused me to be blessed with this wonderful disease. I probably shouldn’t complain because I only have it in one ear, and most of the time I can function okay. Some people have it alot worse than I do. I do know that certain things do trigger it though. I have to watch my diet, especially the salt. I know this has nothing to do with this forum, but it was nice to see that somebody actually heard of this. Most people don’t know what it is. I feel bad for you with the tinnitus as it can be awful. If I don’t have the TV on all night it actually gets so loud that the noise in my head wakes me up. I guess all I can say is that I don’t have an iron problem. Sorry I can’t help.
Katie
katiebearMemberI’m sorry too. You guys are in my prayers.

Who is your doctor at Sloan?
katiebearMemberJack,
I was pretty sure the neupogen doesn’t last that long as at one point he had three shots in a week. I have a feeling that his disease is progressing. He didn’t ask his blast count which drives me nuts. I don’t think he wants to know. He gets another BMB in a couple of weeks, and I guess we’ll know more then. He’s been on Vidaza for 8 months which seems to be working for his reds and platelets, they are within normal range. Thank you for your response.
Katie
katiebearMemberPatti,
I didn’t realize it took a week for the neupogen to kick in. My dad usually gets a shot on a Monday, and by the following Monday, his whites are extremely low again. He has to go back in two weeks for another biopsy. They won’t do the the transplant with the blasts because according to the doctor it will increase his chances of the mds coming back. Thanks for your help.

katiebearMemberEve,
I don’t remember that post as I am fairly new here. I can tell you that very strange things happened to me after my mom passed away. Those happenings gave me the most comfort. It’s been almost three years since we lost her, and it still happens sometimes. You’re in my thoughts and prayers, as I know how difficult this time is.
Katie
katiebearMemberPatti,
Thanks again for your help. It’s a very hard situation, and I’m trying to be helpful. I don’t think she has the whole picture of what is going on. She approached me for help because my mom passed away from lung cancer three years ago and I guess she thought I could be of assistance. My mom never got the chance to try anything natural that might help. My dad on the other hand, has RAEB and is going to undergo a SCT on the 19th of this month, has no interest in trying this stuff. I wish he would. Anyway, thanks again, and I will tell her about the juicing.
Katie
katiebearMemberThanks guys. I have a feeling that she might be too far gone. I know she’s already Stage 4 as it spread to her brain and bones. She asked for my advice so I figured I would try. Thanks again.
katiebearMemberI’m praying too, Eve.
