    Beth,
If you click on search and enter pineapple, you will find a lot of info. Short answer is that is has to be fresh juiced.

I spoke with the surgeon today, he said it will be a little more difficult because he will be repair a hernia where I had hernia surgery 5 years ago, so there will be scar tissue to deal with. My platelets yesterday were 98 and should not be a problem, I just have to keep up the pineapple, I do tend to neglect it at times. My whites are 17, I just started my 11th cycle of Zarnestra, I guess I am some kind of record holder for it being effective.

I also juice pineapple when my platelet drop below 80, last week they were 40, started juicing and counts went to 80. I alway drink it down fast and then rinse well to prevent mouth sores.

I also get random fevers, they occur about once a month, last a few day, go up as high as 103, usually go away in the early am, then return late afternoon, they will usually end with night sweats. I have had every possible test such a cultures, white blood cell scan and Gallium scan and they have no explanation other than the usual “it’s the disease”.
My neut. usually are in 15-20 range with percentage of 75%

    Zoe,
There are others more informed, but it really depends on where you are tested, I get a manual differential at my local Hosp every Friday and have never had blasts shown, I go to Univ. of Neb Med. Center monthly and have blasts listed if they are present, I don’t believe they will show up on an automated count.

    Monica,
Are you talking about blasts in the marrow or blasts in the blood, a BMB would show marrow blasts, that does not necessarily mean blasts in the blood. My CBC only shows blast counts if there are some present in the blood, if not, it is not mentioned.
Other have had different experiences where blasts are not shown unless a manual differential is requested, sometimes not even then, mine are always requested.

I have not had the problem, but was told by my ENT doc to spray afrin on a cotton ball and put it in the nose for about 10 minutes. afrin can be very addictive as a constant nasal spray, but good for this purpose.

We CMML patients are all a little different, mine affects the white cells( as high as 45.8), my platelets are low (52)but stable, it is both MPD, and MDS, thus the probem of treating it. Gleevac has helped 5% of CMML patients according to the NIH.

    Shari,
You right, it was -5q, I did not have that and so it was not suitable for me. I have had very good luck with Zarnestra. They took me of it for 3 weeeks and my whites climbed from 16 to 34, after 4 days on it they were down to 24. I also have an enlarged spleen, it does not cause me much trouble. The main thing I credit Zarnestra for is decreased blasts in the marrow, 4.8% to 0.4%

    Shari,
I tried Gleevac for about 4 weeks and then they discontinued it because of lack of result. I was told it worked on about 5% of CMML and only if they have a specific chromosone, I don’t remember which one, I believe it was Philadelphia Chromosone. Are you getting treatment in Omaha?
