As long as your hub’s platelets are above 50K he would be fine.”

3 things … “probably” red onion ??? C’mon Patti, it either is or it isn’t …

“platelets are above 50K he would be fine” … where do you get that number ?? … how about 45K or even 40K ??… those are pretty good platelet counts for those of us hovering around 10K most of the time …

With this and the horrible opinions you have about flu shots we should once again call this “Patti’s bad advice forum”.

Got my flu shot this week … no pain …. no temp … my hemo said it would be “crazy” for me to not get the shot when the flu could literally kill me … this is a total no-brainer in my opinion … the only restriction is that you cannot be allergic to chicken or eggs … my 2 cents worth …

    Russ …

I take Neulasta (but not Dacogen) and have about 24 to 36 hours afterward when I don’t feel so hot … some bone pain and general malaise but my WBC’s shoot up like your did … then over the 3 weeks until my next shot, it slowly comes back down. I actually have that shot and my Aranesp tonight so that by Thursday I will feel better and can go on a short weekend trip to Florida with Debbie. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck!

I was just at his site using the link in my previous post … down at the bottom there is a link to “visit guestbook”, click on it and it will take you to “sign guestbook”. That should work. Good luck because I know Dennis is having a rough time or we would have heard from him. He will appreciate your note.

    Hi Zoe …

Take a deep breath and try to relax … Neil is absolutely correct that a BMB is the ONLY definitive way to be sure of a diagnosis of MDS. And even then, there are many forms of the disease and new medicines and treatments options are becoming available on a fairly frequent basis. Only after determining what form of the disease you have (if at all) will you be able to begin researching what will be your best course of treatment. Also, you age will help shape your treatment options. (I never ask a lady her age!)

I notice that you are from Ohio. So am I. I live in the Columbus area but I go up to The Cleveland Clinic since it is a Center of Excellence for MDS. That might be an option for you IF you have MDS. Thhis forum is a great place for information, please don’t hesitate to continue asking questions.

Was this Dr. Blum? The Epo drug was probably Procrit or Aranesp. Remember to make the chart that we discussed. Keep your spirits up, there is a long future ahead.

Now you can relax a bit and enjoy seminary. Have a safe trip and we’ll all talk when you get back ’cause I want you to set up a system so we hear from someone about your progression toward and through taking someone else’s marrow … good luck on your trip …

    Hey Jeff …

I think I have found that Debbie grinds off the predulled tip of the needle before giving me my shots. Want me to send her out there to Omaha to give you your shots? Would be glad to let you have her for a bit (for that purpose only, LOL!).

    Dennis …

We have discussed this, but one week I get Aranesp only and the next week Aranesp in one arm and Neupogen in the other like you. But, ALWAYS Aranesp … now if I can just drink enough beer, I will follow Neil’s suggestion of the belly, but frankly it gives me the heebee jeebees just thinking about it. Call me a wuss!
Have a good weekend all …
