    Carrie,

My husband had C-diff during the transplant process. Flagyl worked for him. Nasty stuff that C-diff. Troy was miserable. It is a very common intestinal infection caused by another of those little guys that we all have all the time but usually don’t get aquainted with. I hope the vanco takes care of it and he is on the mend soon. Cathy

    Greg,

Wow! Your Mom is like a Timex watch – she takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Bless her heart, and yours. I am praying that she meets this challenge as she has met all of the others! With a strong constitution and success! Thinking of your Mom, Dad, you and your family. Keep us posted! Cathy

    Barbra,

You both have been such an inspiration to me as we have fought this horrible monster. Ron, with your able support and assistance at every turn, put up one heck of a fight and has won the victory! Thank God for your daughter! Be gentle with yourself and please let us know how you are doing. My thoughts have been with you daily. I pray for you, your daughter and the rest of your family to find peace and comfort in knowing that you provided everything that he needed. Cathy

Good news, Bill! My husband,59, is at day + 129 post transplant. He was treated at the University of Chicago. He has the complication of being on dialysis due to kidney disease caused by a sepsis episode following his fourth consolidation. We know of only four others in the world to have undergone a BMT while on dialysis. He is doing very, very well. He had a minimum of problems during the transplant process and has had no sign of gvhd. Today he took his last dose of anti-rejection med.

I wanted to share with you the best advice that we were given during the transplant process. Viking, who posts here sometimes and is a five year transplant survivor, told us, “Do not plan to be sick.” We remembered this frequently during the transplant process and it really helped us to think positively and to stay focused on just getting better. I will pray that it will work as well for you as it has for Troy. We will be thinking of you both and looking forward to hearing of your progress through the process.

    Cathy

    Suzanne,

If you get a chance please convey to Barbra and Ron my assurance that they are in my thoughts and prayers. I am right here in KC if they need anything or if I can help in any way. As we have fought the fight over the last 15 months they have been such a inspiration and source of information! I am so very sorry. Thanks! Cathy

Kate! I am thinking of you and George and praying with you for a miracle. You have both continue to be strong opponents for “the monster”. Keep your chin up and enjoy every day. Cathy

Ron, thanks for saying what I have often thought should be said! I second that! Thank you Neil for all you do.

Ron and Barb! Know that you are both in my thoughts and prayers. I love your attitude and know that you will make the most of every day! Cathy

Great news Greg! We are headed to Chicago in the morning for Troy’s 100 day BMB. Actually it will be day + 107. We are hoping for a report just like your Mom’s. We are praying for your results to be a match also, Marsha. The three of you have done very, very well! It must have been a good week for a transplant! Tell your Mom that we are thinking of her! We will let you know when we get Troy’s reports. Greg! We hope to run into you two at the “purple palace” one of these days. (Our clinic was recently redecorated – all in purple. One of the nurses says you need a miners hat with a light to see in the waiting room.) Cathy

    Barb and Ron,

I have been anxiously awaiting news. You have been on my thoughts and in my prayers. We have been close enough to where you are to feel your frustration and your pain. Troy’s motto has been “We will win!” We have agreed that “winning” may come to mean meeting the disease on our own terms. You are both fighters! You have fought this thing with everything you have and you still will! I know there are tough decisions to make. You will make the right decision for you! Don’t look back, don’t second guess! Give the monster all you have to give. I believe that you will win! Cathy

Oh Barbra, I am so sorry to hear of Ron’s relapse! He is a fighter and so are you! If there is a way you and the Drs will find it. Keep your chin up! We will be praying for the strength for you to continue to fight this horrible disease! Hang in there! Cathy

Hi Greg! Thanks for thinking of us! I have been wondering everyday how your Mom is doing! Has anyone heard from Marsha? The three Troy, Marsha and your Mom had transplants the same week. We are at day + 56 now and Troy is doing very well. We are actually back in Kansas City for Troy’s Moms funeral, as if a stem cell transplant isn’t enough! The Dr. in Chicago is very pleased with Troy’s progress. He still has the neuropathy in his feet that he went into transplant with and he is still on dialysis three days a week, but he feels great otherwise and is walking a mile and a half on the treadmill and lifting weights. The Dr. was thinking of sending us home early but the last two weeks the platelet counts have dropped and the white count is lower. There are several reasons that this might be happening that are not serious and then there is relapse. Dr. does not anticipate relapse but now wants us to stay in Chicago another month to keep an eye on him. So, back we go tomorrow! I have limited access to computer these days so have not posted but I read when I can. Please send an update on your Mom! Cathy
