Eve, When Bob finished his first round of Vidaza last April his blast were normal and His wbc finally were norm. He went seven months without vidza and in November his Whites were elevated (gradully over a few weeks) when we saw the doc they were up to 20. He saw abnormal cells in the blood smear and decided to do the bmb which showed the 14%. His whites are now coming down again on the Vidaza so doc is feeling it is working again.
Your Dad has been on the vidaza continuously correct??
Bob Neutriphils during the 7 months were doing good, which doctor thought maybe the marrow was starting to produce good cells.

Is your dad fighting off a flu bug or something.

I hope that your next appointment shows improvement.
Bob has been on Levaquin through all of his treatment with Vidaza and again we have him on so many supplements I think that has been such a help.

Every one reacts so differently to the treatments and the disease it is so hard.

Continued prayers. Please keep us posted.

Bob has been Tx free for over a year, His HGB ranges in the Mid 10’s to mid 11’s. Doctor feels this is his threshold. He gets weekly procrit.
8.0 was the cutoff and the doc would order the tx we are so greatful this has not been needed.
Bob is pretty tired, but we are thinking it is the vidaza.

Helen, My Husband did six rounds the last time and his counts stayed pretty stable, his blast got down to normal when they did the BMB after the sixth round. that was April,, 7 months later his blast came up again as well as the WBC and he is not on his third go around of the Vidaza again. Still his counts are hanging in there and tx free for over a year. He does take a lot of vitamins and supplements as we consult a Nutritionist for over a year now and the majority Boost the Immune system, he also takes B12 for the rbc etc.

We are starting to see his wbc go down to normal again so hopefully so are the blast being reduced.
Not sure when dr will check with another BMB.

I wish your husband well with his treatment and hope it starts getting better

Carrie, Bob gets pretty wiped out during his treatments, we start again this week. THe paleness I have not really noticed, but he does do a lot of napping and resting during the week of his treatments.

My Daughter who just gave birth send her Umbilical Cord Blood to be frozen. The doctors suggested it even though MDS and Leukemia is not supposed to be genetic they still thought it A good Idea for her to do for the baby. Seems a lot of people are starting to do this the hospital was very up on it.

Christina, Hope your Dads counts start coming back. Bob never had this reaction before when he was on the Vidaza or now. But I still say that is because of the Vitamins and supplements he is on. I can;t think of another reason even though the dr won’t admit it. The nurses are very interested in it though.

This disease and the treatments are different for each patient.

Hi Andrea sorry you had to find this sight. Hope your Mom is doing well. Is she getting something for the nausea before the Vidaza. Bob’s first time with Vidaza the doc gave him Compuzine which is taken orally (being an RN you prob know) anyhow He took it right when he got the Injection so id did not work that fast and He had such a day throwing up. After that we started Zofran ODT he would take it before we left for the Doctors office and then he never had a problem. We do have a Nutritionist however with Diet and Supplements as well.
Bob got Dx with the MDS last year as a result of a Very Bad Bronchial infection was in the hospital three times until they got it under control. Right now he is doing the Vidaza again but his counts are hanging in there.

    Prayers are with you
