So sorry to hear of your loss. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

JanePMemberI am trying to find all all of the info I can on the VA hospitals. Hopefully I will find one that can do the BMT and will be able to provide the care needed. I always thought if a VA hospital could not treat you then they would refer you to someone else but I never thought that would cost 400K. I too am on Tricare since my husband is retired military. This is scary.
Thanks for the response.

JanePMemberBeth,
I certainly understand spending holidays at the hospital. My brother had to go every day for the last 6 months of his life. The staff at the University of Virginia was so great in that they always made him laugh and forget the reason he was there. He too suffered with gout.I certainly have you and your family in my prayers.
Jane
JanePMemberHave you tried Duke in North Carolina? You may want to give them a call.

JanePMemberYou and your family are in my prayers. I know this is so difficult and I don’t know that anyone is ever prepared. I lost my brother in Aug 2005 after they gave him 6 months and in Nov 2006 I lost my Dad. They are both still with me I know and there is only one that can explain why. Just know there is a reason and a plan for it all. Life seems so complicated at times, but simple at times as well.
Get rest and take care of yourself too.

JanePMemberNeil,
I hope things are starting to turn around for you. You are certainly in my prayers. Get rest and watch those games and get ready for some turkey on Thursday.

JanePMemberDonna,
What hospital? You may want a 2nd opinion. I know it is very difficult when they get to this age but I would try to find someone that may have more knowledge of his condition.
I wish I knew more, but again someone on this forum may offer more helpful information.
I pray for you and your family to find the strength to get through this, and encourage your Dad that sometimes it does take feeling bad but only for a short time to feel better.

JanePMemberThanks Cheryl. I had spoken with you a couple of years ago when my brother had seen Dr. McCarty on Aug.10th 2005. He passed away on the 23rd of August 2005 so he never made it for the BMT. After his death they said he had viral meningitis and none of the antibiotics administered helped. He was feeling so good on the 10th and was in the hospital by the 11th with temp of 103 so we are not sure how he ended up with meningitis.
My cousin actually saw Dr. McCarty as well this month and he has not progressed as far along as my brother so hopefully he will get his BMT.
It is so good to hear from you. I have thought about you and many others on this forum over the past 2 years but just could not bring myself to get back on line. Here I am and I pray for you all and wish you the best.

JanePMemberThanks Greg. I said I would remain on the forum after my brother passed but it has been a very hard 2 years without him. He left us after 6 short months from the dx.
I visited my cousin a couple of weeks ago as he is in Virginia and he looks very good and his counts are all good for now. He is in good spirits and even returned to work part time. Just waiting for news on whether he will go to Richmond, VA, Nashville, TN or Seattle, WA for the BMT. He is retired military so he has to go wherever they will take his insurance.
I am sorry to hear about your cousin, and I wish you and your family the very best.

JanePMemberCarrie,
I know how you feel. I find it strange that I still feel that my brother is always looking over me. I had a butterfly land on my arm the other day, and I had the strangest sensation that it was sent by him. I have good and bad days, but have come to terms that he is not suffering, and I myself know he did not care for his quality of life he was going through since March. I will always miss him.
I pray for you, and your family and just remember all of the good times, and laughter you had together. You will find much peace with the memories of good times.
