    dear shellie

in my opinion i think you have to treat your dad’s mental state before you can even think of helping him physically

    good luck

    hi christina

can’t tell you from personal experience with my dad but my concern would be airplane travel as far as bacteria goes – an airplane is such a breeding ground for illness that even people without a compromised immune system sometimes have a problem – i can understand your dad not wanting to leave the comfort level he has at home with his doctors – maybe he should discuss the situation with them and see if they think it is a wise thing to do at this point

my dad went throught the same episode right after thanksgiving

they never found anything in his blood cultures, but fortunately the antibiotics did the trick

i would think that a neutropenic fever happens when the neutrofils (the fighters in the wbc) are very low and can’t fight the infection or virus

    good luck to your dad

is your dad taking anything to help combat the nausea
    – my dad takes zofran 1/2 hour after the injections and he has had no nausea – it has given him some constipation, but he has adjusted the amount of zofran and is having less of a problem with that issue

    good luck

my dad never has loose bowels when he is taking the vidaza-as a matter of fact he is usually constipated – the constipation comes from the anti nausea drug he takes zofran

    good luck
