Butch,You need to take care of your own health, as your wife needs you so much right now.Pericarditis is nothing to mess with, you need your rest.Evidently your company does’nt give emergency leave for family health issues? I’m sorry our wife is having so many problems, have faith that things will get better. She seems like one strong lady. My husband also sleeps more during the day, he has so much fatigue gets up at 3am. and can’t sleep until later in the day. He had pericarditis years ago I remember how painful it was. take care, we’ll be praying for you and your wife. Ellie

Hi Doreen, Have you thought about checking to see if there is a support group in the Rochester or Minneapolis area? It would be great if there were. I was involved with a patient’s group in the cities area at one time for another disease and it was so helpful for all.T ry the social service dept. at the Univ. of Minn.Fairview, or Mayo to see what they have to offer.I have wondered about this myself, I would be interested in attending meetings if there is a group in the state. It’s tough when your by your self. Good luck, Ellie

ps. Can you check while your an inpatient, there must be a social worker there.

Hi kathryn, My husband has also had a great deal of swelling, I wonder if it go’s with the autoimmue diseases? his feet and legs were terribly swollen this winter, for over a month. He was given lasix to rid the excess fluid. He was given infusion treatments in the hosp. and he had an allergic reaction to penicillan., all of which retain fluid.I guess every time he takes a new med. I expect the swelling!!Good luck with your fathers treatments.

Hi Lola, When my husband was first diagnosed I asked Neil’s advice re: a second opinion and if he had experience with Mayo. His answer at that time was he would go to N.I.H. at the univ. of Minnesota. I think Neil is away now because he hasn’t been responding to the forum for the past week or so. There is a woman on the forum that is going to the U.M., she will probaley reply. You will know more after consulting with the Hutch. Have you visited Minn.? It’s a wonderful state, I’m a transplant so I can say that. The medical Institutions here are top notch. Most likely Neil will reply when he sees your post. Good luck.
