I have added you and your son to my prayer list. May the Lord God bless Chad with a full recovery and many more productive years of life. May He also give you and your family strength and peace as you head to Germany to be with your son.

    Fran,

As always, I will keep you and Jim in my prayers. I would like to see Jim get healthy again so that you can address your own health concerns. Then you can both live long and healthy lives together.

    Blessings,

    Marylinda,

I don’t know if MDS patients go into remission but my Dad seems to be in a similar position to you.
His Oncologist does blood tests every month. About 6 months ago, Dad was told that he didn’t have to go to the doctor’s office for a visit for 3 months. After his next visit he got another 3 months “off” even though he still had a blood test done every month.
Last week we went to the Oncologist and he told us that Dad does not have to go back for anymore visits at all unless the doctor phones and requests an appointment. Dad still has to go to the lab monthly for a blood test but he doesn’t have to see the doctor. If they see something in the blood test that they don’t like, they will phone Dad and tell him to come in. The doctor didn’t call it remission. He said that it is an “extended holiday”.
Dad still sees his Kidney Doctor every three months. That doctor gets a copy of the monthly blood tests as well and he decides how much Aranesp Dad should get and they phone to tell us how often I need to give him his needle.
Dad isn’t as healthy looking as I would like to see him but as far as his blood counts are concerned, he is doing very well.

I am glad to know that you are doing better.

    Blessings.

    Fran,

I’m sorry that you and Jim have to deal with all of this practically by yourselves. Yes, I will keep praying for you…..and for your children and grandchildren as well. Sometimes people need a ‘nudge’ when they become too ‘busy’ for what matters the most….FAMILY.

    Blessings,

One other thing that I forgot to mention. Dad was dignosed with MDS 4 years ago. He went to see his doctor initially because he had a cold for 6 months which would not go away. One thing led to another and he wound up at an Oncologist and a diagnosis of MDS. He was told that he could have had MDS for up to 20 years and never had any symptoms except anemia for which he has always taken iron pills. He lived a full and “healthy” life for the past many years and very likely already had the disease.

My Dad was diagnosed with MDS when he was 76.

He was diagnosed with CMML when he was 79.

    Hi.
My Dad always gets a flu shot. He got them before he found out that he had MDS and then CMML and he still get it every year.

    Jody.

We heard that Flu shots are behind this year because the manufacturers had to add something to the serum to protect us from another type of flu. Does that sound right to you? That was just hearsay but I heard it from a few different people.

I read in the newspaper that they will begin giving flu shots in the middle of November. If you hear any differently, would you let me know please? You and I only live about 45 minutes apart so I assume we will get the shots at the same time. Last week my Mom cut a piece out of the K-W Record with a schedule for Flu Shot Clinics on it but that can change anytime.

    Hi Leeman.

I am very sorry to hear of your wife’s illness. You came to the right place to express your concerns and to seek help. There are so many posts on this forum which can help you with your fears that I cannot begin to list them. When you have time, read as many of the posts as you can. That is what I did at this time last year when we found that my Dad has CMML. This forum has helped us from the first day that I found it.

Alot of the people you will read about have beat the statistical odds. There are alot of ways to deal with these diseases and there are alot of successes.

Best wishes to you and your wife. Please keep us posted.

    Blessings,
    Caroline
