Mom was 59 or 60? The initial diagnosis was ITP, then possible early CMML and ITP. A couple of years later and 3 bmb’s later she is now MDS. (w/o further classification) Mom’s monocytes were never elevated beyond 1 x 10 9 so they ruled out the CMML.

I am so sorry Ellie. Please know that Mom and I are thinking of you. We are so saddened by your loss. Glen has fought so hard for so long. It really isn’t fair that such a rare illness has taken Glen. I’m so sorry.

Thinking of you and your family Ellie.

    Hugs, Jody

    Hi Caroline,

    Thanks for the info.

Usually by now Occ. health nurses come around with their flu trolly to immunize us at work, guess that explains why they haven’t been around as yet. Please let me know if you hear anything else..and I’ll do the same. smile

I copied this from your blog Marla:

“I generally took a bowl or large cup of onion soup every hour throughout the day, and continued it for another 2 weeks”….

Seriously? 1 bowl every hr?? I think most people would not be able to follow this…You’d need a pretty honkin’ fridge to hold all of those onions and don’t onions cause gas?

Hi Lindajo, 15 years..that’s great! Mom’s been getting the flu shot also…for the past couple of years. Her family doctor and hem. recommend that she get it and so far so good. Susi, glad to hear that it didn’t hurt smile . Susan, how’s your Dad feeling?

I haven’t heard too much about the flu shots yet this year…wondering when they’ll start immunizing here in Ontario?

    Hi Susan,

Please try not to worry. I think the most common diagnosis, when there is a low platelet count, is ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura). It’s an immune condition where the body’s immune system destroys platelets. Especially if the platelets are the only blood line affected, or if everything else is normal. The oncologist will rule out other conditions that cause low platelets. Here’s an amazing site with alot of helpful info and a discussion forum also:

    Take care,

    Jody
