Hi VA Gal,
Grans is short for Granulocytes. They are white cells that contain granules. There are different types of granulocytes:
neutrophils which fight bacteria
eosinophils which increase in response to allergic reaction
and basophils (um, can’t remember sorry)
There are also lymphocytes and monocytes..their cytoplasm is not granular so they aren’t classified as granulocytes.

Best of luck to your Mom! Hoping all goes well with her 5-azacytidine treatment.
take care,
Jody
shirlsgirlMemberJack thanks for making me smile!
shirlsgirlMemberThank you Jerry, I know you are looking out for all of us. I appreciate your input on this forum.
You certainly are no ‘jackass’. For the greater good you have spoken out…
One thing you have shared on this forum that I remember so well, is a dosage of vitamin K that was recommended on this forum. And after you consulted with you doctor about the dosage you discovered that it would probably kill you. So when you speak up…I think it’s for the greater good.
Hang in there…I hope all of this will pass.
shirlsgirlMemberKWJ, I wish your Dad the best of luck with his SCT. I really hope he can beat this. I would like to hear more of his story…
shirlsgirlMemberHi Eve and Chuck,
Chuck you say that people are entitled to their opinion. I totally agree with you. I am entitled to my opinion as you are to yours etc..
Some may call it an arguement…I prefer to call it a discussion. It’s important to see ALL sides not just one side and I see nothing wrong with challenging some ideas and voicing a different opinion.
I personally find Marla’s reaction puzzling. She wrote “I’ve seen annoying arguements on this list”. Didn’t she participate in most of the heated exchanges? She has some very strong opinions, that she is absolutely entitled to. Just as we are all entitled to our opinions.
I think we can all agree that John’s passing is very sad and we will miss him. Marla is very good at twisting things…I see no disrespect directed at John or his family.
I agree with you Jack. “We are all desperate for answers and we are all in this battle together”
We are friends trying to help one another. (cheesy but true)
Respectfully,
jody
shirlsgirlMemberHi Chris,
You haven’t displayed any hostility or disrespect to John’s memory at all. Quite the contrary…you are obviously caring and show deep concern for John and others seeking alternative treatment. I too am very sad that John has passed. I really hope that anyone seeking alternative treatment shares everything with their oncologist/hematologist!!
I see no “mean spiritedness” here at all. Just caring people!!
Jody
shirlsgirlMemberHi Fran,

shirlsgirlMemberDr. Klaper from the Institute of Nutrition Education and Research in California feels that gallbladder cleanses are useless and possibly hazardous…
a quick and informative read:
shirlsgirlMemberOh no. Kristy I’m so sorry about your mom. Please know that my thoughts are with you and your family.
Jody
shirlsgirlMemberYay! Susi, that is great news!!
Hey, Jerry! You sound like a big football fan… Michael (my hubby) is too . I’m so glad that you’ll be able to attend the Heisman awards and your wonderful trip to Maui!! That’s something special to really look forward too.
all the best,
Jody
shirlsgirlMemberAwesome!
shirlsgirlMemberThanks Neil!
Too funny Jack! Hey, thankfully your Iowa chromosomes are responding so well to Zarnestra. I’m looking forward to reading your next update.
shirlsgirlMemberHi beachbum,
My mom has success with Gleevec. I think however she’s the only one on this forum that is taking it. Mom had many chromosome abnormalities prior to Gleevec and many of them are gone now. Mom’s QOL is pretty good now. Her platelets are at a reasonable level (around 150), her wbc’s are in a normal range, her rbc’s are a little low and hgb is low normal. Before Gleevec her wbc’s were climbing and her platelets were as low as 11. At mom’s next Hemo. appointment I can ask Dr. Leber what the new criteria is for prescribing Gleevec. Please don’t hesitate to e-mail me if you have any questions..
Take care,
jody
shirlsgirlMemberHi Ellie,
Will the CDC will update you with any more info on the infected blood that Glen rec’d?
Please take good care,
Jody
